Oklahoma City Lawn Care Services FAQ

If you don’t see an answer to your question here, please contact us!

What’s included in your Lawn Care Program?

The flexibility of our lawn care services allows us to tailor the number, type, and frequency of lawn treatments to each unique lawn.

We won’t ask you to buy a certain number of lawn treatments per year. Instead, we’ll give you a dependable investment amount and ask you to buy our signature lawn results.

Every Willis Lawn customer receives our lawn weed control and lawn fertilization services as part of the program. If your lawn has a particular need, we will customize our treatment program to meet those needs to the best of our abilities. For many homeowners, our signature lawn care program is exactly what they need. So it’s a highly convenient package.

If you’ve had difficulties with a specific aspect of your lawn in the past, schedule a conversation today and we’ll assess how we can help.

Often, our customers like to start with a soil test. This tells us if you’d benefit from soil amendments like a pH adjustment. A tailored approach to fertilizer goes a long way toward a healthy, green lawn. However, sometimes a pH adjustment can really help.

What upgrades are available for my lawn?

We have several lawn care services you can add on, including preventative pest control services for army and grub worms. We only offer services that we believe offer real value to our customers. You can add or remove services at any time.

Services include: Lawn aeration services, grub worm preventative services, army worm preventative services, soil testing services, and soil amendments services.

What do you offer in your Weed Control Services?

Our weed control services are comprehensive and will address all Oklahoma weeds. We’ll do this for you with a 100% money-back guarantee and without a contract.

Lawn health is essential to weed control. This is why our weed control process is not a standalone service but is included in our Willis Lawn Care Program. This is our foundational program to promote the health of your lawn.

We use a blue colorant in certain liquid-applied lawn treatments. This is most noticeable in the early months of the year. The blue color lets you see that your entire lawn is being treated, and gives you peace-of-mind that your lawn will be ready for spring.

Our technicians are trained to spray only the lawn – not your fences, toys, flower beds, or driveway. This ensures our treatments will always be extremely clean and uniform.

What’s in the weed control treatment?

We use a lot of products and the list continually grows. Our weed control program’s most powerful tools are pre-emergent herbicides. We use a variety of post-emergent herbicides, especially for new lawns or lawns that have a big problem with certain types of weeds.

Additionally, we are huge fans of trying new technology to improve weed prevention, using more convenient treatment schedules, and keeping your investment as low as possible while maintaining excellence.

What’s included in your Lawn Fertilization Services?

Willis provides lawn fertilization services on Bermuda grass lawns in Oklahoma City and areas all around the Metro. (Note: Fertilizer is not standalone and must be purchased in a program.)

Our approach is simple:

1. Utilize the best fertilizers for Bermuda grass and for our climate here in central Oklahoma.

2. Execute our annual treatment calendar to provide a beautiful, dense, healthy lawn for our customers.

3. Put only the necessary amount of product on a lawn – don’t over-treat – but ensure 100% of our customers will delight in their lawn.

Your lawn happiness – and your entire experience – is completely guaranteed. We use the best fertilizers our industry has to offer. We test new products frequently, always looking for ways to minimize environmental and cost implications for our customers while providing the same quality we have always provided.

What’s your lawn fertilization schedule?

Our lawn fertilization calendar is built specifically to provide ideal nutrient levels for maximum lawn density and color while preventing the need for excessive lawn mowing. We also believe your lawn should be consistently dark green – not fade between applications.

We follow the OSU OK County Extension office’s calendar for treatments.
Depending on the year, your lawn fertilization applications will occur approximately every 6 weeks beginning in April/May.

Fertilizer 1 – Quick green-up and growth
Fertilizer 2 – For color and density improvement and maintenance
Fertilizer 3 – For color and density improvement and maintenance
Fertilizer 4 – Helps finish out the season with a healthy lawn and prepare for winter

(All programs include 3 weed prevention treatments.)

What’s included in your Lawn Aeration Services?

Lawn aeration, also known as aerification, can be like a steroid shot for your lawn. If you’re already on our lawn health program this service can have a multiplier effect on the improvement and health of your lawn.

1. By nature, lawn aeration creates an immediate space for a flush of new root growth underground.

2. It can rapidly speed up the decomposition of excessive thatch in your lawn. (Thatch is a buildup of old organic material that can slow down its own decomposition and create a spongy feel in the lawn if left unmanaged. This creates a welcome environment for pests and diseases.)

3. It increases the transfer of water, air, and nutrients down into the direct root zone of your lawn.

Proper core aeration of your lawn is performed with a heavy machine. The machine has a number of tines (hole punches) with sharpened edges that are repeatedly forced down into the soil of your lawn. (Imagine a cookie cutter that’s really small but 4” tall.)

The tines grab the soil that they “cut” and eject these plugs onto the surface of the lawn.

The plugs can be removed or left on the lawn. Typically, they are left on the lawn to decompose which saves tremendously on labor.

When these voids are created in the soil, it gives space for the compacted soil to spread out and get some space. This can cause an incredible flush of root development and your lawn will LOVE it.

If you’re already on a solid lawn health regimen, the next service you would benefit from is this one! Once you have the service done the first time you will be a believer! For a relatively small investment, you can greatly increase the effectiveness of your lawn health program. Be sure to reach out to us at 405-256-4926 for more information or to get signed up!

Why do I need to aerate my lawn?

Some lawns need aeration more than others, but all lawns will see positive results. If your yard has a lot of foot, play, pet, or vehicle traffic you will see grass growing more evenly. If you have heavy clay soil, you will see less water run-off and more evenly growing grass. If you have an established healthy lawn you will see results in the form of reduced thatch.

For warm-season grasses like Bermuda, anytime during the growing season is good for aeration. You will get the most bang for your buck in early summer when the grass is growing quickly.

Before you aerate your lawn, mark your underground sprinkler systems and dog fences so the aerator doesn’t damage them. Water your lawn each day leading up to the service. Don’t water on the day of service or you’ll have a muddy mess on your hands.

After verification, resume normal maintenance. Following core aeration or plug aeration you will have many thousands of small half-inch wide, 2-3 inch long “plugs” of soil laying all over the top of your lawn. It can be unsightly at first, but as you water your lawn these will break down in 1-3 weeks.

As for the cost, it varies from company to company, but usually it’s a small multiple of what you are paying for standard lawn treatments. Or if you are our customer, you can have a small adjustment made to your monthly billing amount to add aeration.

How is Willis different from your competition?

A typical lawn care company will treat your lawn a set number of times per year, offer generic packages of lawn treatments, and require payment after each lawn treatment. And if something goes wrong, they’ll keep coming back over and over to try to make you happy. But doing something ineffectively five times won’t fix the problem.

We believe the best lawn care services care about how your yard looks. Our promise is a lawn you will be proud of, and that you’ll have a dependable experience with us. Our team will tailor treatments to your lawn’s unique needs. You’ll pay once for the year. (We break it down into 12 monthly payments for most customers.) We make our money by delivering results. Cancel any time and get your money back if you feel like we didn’t do the excellent job you expected.

Do you do tree trimming or landscape services?

No, we are solely dedicated to serving your lawn care needs. We specialize in comprehensive lawn services including weed control, fertilization, and aeration. We put all of our energies toward giving you the best customer service and the most satisfying end result. To ensure the quality of the services we specialize in, we don’t foray into tree services, landscape design, sod installation, leaf removal, seeding, snow removal, weed eater or lawn mowing services, or any other landscaping services.

For landscape maintenance and tree care, there are plenty of worthy companies in Oklahoma City and surrounding areas. If you want premium lawn care services from professionals with years of experience who will put your satisfaction and the ease of your experience above all else, call us today or get a quote online.
